Piper Comanche Aircraft

Piper had made several models of the Comanche Personal Aircraft. They were the PA-24, the PA-24-250, the PA-24-260 series and the PA-24-400. This kind of aircraft was only made from 1956 to 1972, when flooding from Hurricane Agnes wiped out the manufacturing plant.

The Piper Comanche is a light aircraft that has retractable landing gear, and an all-metal body. Along with the Twin Comanche, it made up the core of Piper’s line-up. Today the 250 and 260 models are respected as machines that are both economical and perform well.

The factory-installed fuel tanks allowed a capacity of 90 gallons, but later a modification gave the Comanche an extra 30 gallons. With the modifications, these craft now had an impressive range. The Comanche is attractive with the swept tail and laminar flow wing without compromising its rugged design.

The Piper Comanche remains popular as a used aircraft and still has many loyal fans. There is a club for this aircraft that hosts fly-ins, model-specific training and a monthly magazine. The International Comanche Society offers many things for the die-hard Comanche fan.
